I am South African-born and have led a colorful life filled with constant movement due to my father, Richard Weilers, being a hotelier. While some may find this challenging, I lived in stunning hotels and resorts. The downside was keeping up with school, especially as a dyslexic. However, I found practical experiences rewarding and formed relationships with culturally diverse people, enriching my human approach to life and benefiting my profession
In my youth, I lived in Seychelles, where my love for fashion photography began. In the early 90s, various fashion and advertising shoots took place at my hotel, allowing me to be a child model. The thrill of creating inspiring imagery captivated me as I crafted worlds of desire
My last year of school was transformative, thanks to a fantastic art teacher who introduced me to the technical elements of photography. I later pursued a three-year diploma in photography in Pretoria, South Africa, assisting many photographers during my studies. This kept me close to the industry and allowed me to explore photography's technical aspects while learning from my mistakes
After graduating in 2001, I moved to Cape Town and assisted numerous international photographers, aiming to broaden my horizons beyond the domestic industry. In 2003, after several failed visa applications, I finally moved to London, where I spent the next eight years assisting to integrate into the UK industry. This period was filled with incredible trips and valuable life lessons while balancing my visa status
I began shooting independently in 2011, the year my son was born, marking a time when I felt grounded. Additionally, I acquired British citizenship. At this point, most of my work revolved around e-commerce photography, aligning with fast fashion, where speed and content were essential. I also ventured into directing music videos, including a promo for Basement Jaxx
Primarily focusing on women's wear for high street brands, I experienced a dip in work but found opportunities in children's wear, discovering my talent for working with kids. My goal was to ensure they enjoyed the process, as their enthusiasm made all the difference
Just before and during COVID-19, I found a balance between women's and children's wear, breaking the niche barrier. I joined Ray Brown towards the end of the pandemic and am thrilled to be represented by them in the UK and US.
